“Women in Science in Azerbaijan”
The meeting “Women in Science in Azerbaijan” was held at the Central Scientific Library (CSL) organized by the Women’s Council of ANAS on the 11th of February - International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Academician-Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences, Academician Nargiz Akhundova, Chairman of the Free Trade Union, Doctor of Law, Professor Habil Gurbanov, director of CSL, PhD in Medicine Leyla Imanova, Chairman of Women Council of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy Rena Mirzazade, as well as chairmen and members of women's councils of scientific institutions and organizations attended the event.
Opening the meeting, the academician Nargiz Akhundova said that, gender equality was in special attention in our country, for the first time in East Azerbaijan, the right to vote was given to women. Women are actively involved in the social life of the republic, including the activities of ANAS, as well as scientific and technological innovations.
Then the chairman of the board, Rena Mirzazade, emphasized that this remarkable day was celebrated all over the world with a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 2015. The resolution was adopted to ensure full and equal access to education for women, as well as to ensure gender equality and to expand their rights and opportunities. Professor Habil Gurbanov, head of the department at the Philosophy Institute, Rafiga Azimova and others said that 70 percent of the ANAS employees are women and touched the importance of educating youth in dignity and patriotism.
The member of the department Youth and Science Ph.D., associate professor Ilhama Gasabova made report on the theme “The women made firsts in Azerbaijan science”. The collaborators of Folklore Institute Ph.D., Malayka Mammadova, Ph.D. Sevinj Gasimova, Naiba Hagverdiyeva also took part at the meeting.
